Horsethief Landfill Closure ProgressHorsethief landfill was closed and put to bed in 1993. Here is how it looked in October 2000.Horsethief Landfill Closure ProjectNatural grasses are becoming firmly established on the old landfill site. About 80% of the disturbed surface is now covered with vegetation. This was no small task given the sandy gravel soil, strong dry winds, and southern exposure.
