PROBATION/COMMUNITY SUPERVISION

A Probation Officer monitors the juvenile to see that he or she is complying with the terms and conditions of the court order. Probation Officers identify risk and protection factors, develop a case plan and facilitate appropriate community intervention(s). The Probation Officer assesses risk to re-offend, risk to the community, attest to any non-compliance, and holds youth accountable.

The Juvenile Department combines court, probation, and incarceration services for juvenile offenders in Klickitat County. While a Superior Court judge (or court commissioner) presides over juvenile hearings and trials, this department provides courtroom and record keeping support, including entering all case dispositions into the Washington State Juvenile Information System (JUVIS). Juvenile Department staff are responsible for pretrial recommendations, supervision and case management for juvenile probationers, and diversion services.
