On-Site Septic Program

The goal of the on-site septic program is to ensure that the public is not exposed to disease causing organisms, nuisances, or other pollution resulting from improperly operating on-site sewage collection and disposal. Environmental Health staff is charged with the responsibility for completing the following activities:

  • Ensuring the proper sizing, installation, operation and maintenance of on-site sewage systems serving structures generation less than 3,500 gallons per day.

  • Working with the Code Compliance Officer to respond to complaints and correct failing on-site systems.

  • Providing technical assistance to homeowners.

  • Conduct sanitary surveys in suspected problem areas.

  • Evaluate on-site systems on request for home sales or mortgage loans.

  • Review proposed subdivisions to determine suitability of proposed lots for the installation of on-site sewage systems.

  • Provide concurrent review of plans for larger on-site sewage disposal systems under the jurisdiction of Washington State Department of Health or Washington State Department of Ecology.
