2017 Random Acts of Kindness Proclamation
Whereas, it is known that kindness increases overall health and decreases feelings of stress in people of all ages; and
Whereas, the act of being kind increases energy, levels of happiness, and hormones that can lower blood pressure and improve heart health; and
Whereas, volunteering and giving help to others protects people from heart disease and decreases the likelihood of early death; and
Whereas, engaging in acts of kindness produces endorphins which serve to decrease pain; and
Whereas, engaging in acts of kindness decrease stress, anxiety and depression; and
Whereas, acts of kindness are a free and easy to use strategy to build stronger connections in the community which can lower rates of teen substance use and mental health issues; and
Whereas, the Klickitat and Lyle Teens Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse Coalition are working to increase awareness of these facts, and encourage Klickitat County citizens to take steps to increase acts of kindness in their communities.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners, that they declare their support for the Klickitat and Lyle Teens Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse Coalition’s efforts by proclaiming February 12th – 18th as Random Acts of Kindness week in Klickitat County.
